Distributor Bushings
If you found this page without first reading the Distributor
Rebuild page, it would make more sense if you went there first.
I now offer replacement bushings for the early model Z
car distributors. Currently I know that they fit the distributor from 78
through 83 models, but they do not fit the distributors from the L24 (for
distributor model #s check out Jason's
page). If you need to see how bushing replacement is performed, check
out the Distributor Rebuild page. The bushings
are not available through Nissan,
nor Nissan after marketers like Motor
Sport Auto and are not available at any bearing distributor that I
have found (the only other alternative is to buy a replacement distributor
housing at well over $100 dollars). They have an O.D. of 5/8", and an I.D.
of 12.5 mm. They are approximately 3/4" long and one of them is flanged.
A very strange bushing. I currently buy standard sized oil impregnated
bronze bushings and use a 12.5 mm reamer and a lathe to open up the bore.
Here is a photo of the original (left) and replacement (right) bushings.

The original bushings appear to be steel. Only one distributor
out of four that I have rebuilt would not take the bushings. In that particular
one, the original bushing had spun and destroyed the housing. However,
as mentioned on the rebuild page, sometimes the shaft is too worn to work
with the new bushings, or the shaft may not align correctly with the rest
of the distributor. I have been succesful with replacement only about 1/3rd
of the time...
Please first contact me at jrdemers@pacific.mps.ohio-state.edu,
(or 614 292-0476) with any questions you might have
or to indicate that you have sent me a check.
For a pair of the bushings, please send a check or money
order payable to Joseph R. Demers for $15.00 and $1.00 shipping (shipped
via USPS) to:

Make sure that you indicate where you would like the bushings
shipped to and a phone or e-mail address where you can be reached.
It is my intent to serve the Z
community with a product which may not be replaced easily. If you find
that the bushings will not fit, please contact me and I can return your
money for the product (minus shipping). I will also try and work with you
to find a bushing that will fit. It may end up more expensive, but it will
be much cheaper than the alternative. I can not be responsible for damage
done to the distributor nor failure that occurs in usage following the
upgrade. Please remember that refitting these bushings is not performed
without the risk of damaging the distributor beyond use.
